Frequently Asked Questions
What should I wear / bring?
Comfortable clothes that do not restrict your range of motion. Comfortable shoes such as sneakers or casual shoes. A bottle of water. Any medical items such as a ventalin-inhaler or epi-pen.
Do I need to book?
Please do. While we won’t turn you away if you turn up on time, preference will be given to those students who have booked in the case of a maximum capacity class. It also helps us plan for the class, including having extra instructors for bigger classes. Booking does not require any sort of payment, so please do it.
Is the class on?
Classes are always on unless otherwise specified. Often our regular students don’t bother to book, meaning there will be no people booked in on the system and yet classes will go ahead as usual. If you are traveling a long way and want to be sure or might be more than 5 minutes late, give us a call.
How do I start?
The best way to start is to attend the next scheduled First Timers class, join the next Beginners Term or book a private class.
What is Parkour?
Parkour is a method of physical training that develops a peron’s ability to overcome obstacles. The focus is on strength, speed, usefulness / utility, practicality and helping yourself and others / altruism.
See the About : Parkour page for more.
What is Freerunning?
Freerunning is an emerging “displacement art”, an offshoot of Parkour where the focus is on creativity and aesthetics. Freerunning and Parkour are often trained together and it’s easy to be confused between them. Characteristic of Freerunning are flips and spins, inefficient movements that serve little practical purpose but challenge the practitioner in new ways that look and feel good.
Is Parkour dangerous?
Like all physical activities Parkour carries an inherent risk of injury that can never be completely removed. However with proper instruction, gradual progression and a controlled environment these risks are minimised during the steep learning curve. If you always focus and don’t try things you are not physically and mentally ready for, you will be fine.
